I aspire to be a consumer advocate. The reason I want to make cool things for people to use is because I want there to be cool things.

This isn’t for charitable reasons. Firstly, I want there to be cool things so that my friends and I can use them. Secondly, if I do what is best for the customer, it pays off in them spreading the word.

Maybe there are better short term strategies. You could trick your patients to switch from their other dentist to you, even though you basically have the same practice. Or you could make your e-commerce site just like everyone else’s and advertise harder.

But what if you built experiences for the customer instead of for yourself. What if you could just market yourself as better for your customer. Wait… now the rest is easy!

If you really help your customers, you end up acting in your own best interest. It’s the only sure fire way to make sure you are satisfying the needs of your market. The rest is just short term trickery.
