Espresso and Water

Hugo ordered an espresso after lunch today. It came with a shot of club soda. Huh?

What a world of difference. It made an otherwise normal espresso worth noticing. We bothered to stop our conversation to analyze its purpose.

There is a thoughtfulness about bringing the customer something he didn’t ask for, even if it’s as effortless as a club soda. Not because of anything inherent in the action, but because it is unexpected.

And nobody else is doing it.
