It’s fun to watch Dilbert’s trials and tribulations, but maybe not so fun to be Dilbert.I used to be a Dilbert. I worked in a big company with all the trappings of your standard corporation. I was basically a knowledge-based assembly line worker. I hated it, and I complained about it. But it took me 7 months to leave, even though I knew I wanted to from day 1.

At first I said to myself, “Maybe it will get better. I’ll stick it out for awhile.” And after that I just got used to not being stimulated.

Thats the real danger here - complacency. There was no magic revelation that finally moved me to action. It just slowly dawned on me that life was too short to be so unimportant.

It’s tough to work up the courage to make the transition. But it’s worth it. Don’t wait to see if things will get better. Go make them better.

Don’t be a Dilbert.
